The next Tomb Raider’s title possibly leaks

It used to be that shows like E3 were packed with surprises. Secrets stayed secret until the time of unveiling. It was like Video Game Christmas. Nowadays, the few surprises left really are surprises, mostly because it’s a wonder the developer and publisher managed to keep the project they’re working on a secret before someone could leak it. The latest on that list seems to be the title for the next Tomb Raider game –

The latest on that list seems to be the title for the next Tomb Raider game – Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Reddit user Tripleh280 was riding the train in Montreal and managed to snap a picture of what looks to be a presentation for that game.

“I was looking at my phone and next to me was this guy working on a PowerPoint. Out of curiosity I took a look to see what he was working [on],” Tripleh280 said while speaking to Polygon. “That’s when I saw the logo for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. I work downtown in Montreal, so I know that many game studios are in the area so I assumed it was possibly real and the name of the next Tomb Raider game.”

Kotaku reports that while California-based Crystal Dynamics is typically the developer on Tomb Raider titles, Eidos Montreal is working on the next title in the series. Kotaku was also able to confirm with one source that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is indeed the title.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider‘s title could always change. Maybe.

Now that this is out in the wild, Square Enix may decide to change the title to something else, or even that this was primarily a working title. Even so, if you’re working on a project that has a multi-million dollar budget and needs to stay secret, maybe the train isn’t the best place to work. Just saying.

Square Enix, of course, has refused to comment on the matter. Rise of the Tomb Raider launched for Xbox One late last year and for PlayStation 4 just a few weeks ago on October 11. Development on the next title is likely under well under way at this point, so a final title isn’t a far stretch. With Tomb Raider releasing in 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider in 2015, seeing an announcement at E3 2017 isn’t unreasonable.
