The Game Awards 2016 finalists lead by DOOM, Overwatch, and I’ve never felt more out of touch

The Game Awards finalists have been announced, and it’s safe to say that the front-runners are both Overwatch and DOOM, as I’ve been expecting all year. Uncharted 4 actually leads the nominations with eight, but it wasn’t able to carry its momentum throughout the year like the other two games. The award show will air on Dec. 1 at 6pm PT/9pm EST, and its results are final. Though, they’ll be debated on Internet forums until the end of time.

With that said, Square Enix is totally getting ripped off this year regardless if Final Fantasy XV made release date cut off of Nov. 24 or not. Here’s a list of the finalists.

I’m so out of touch with the AAA movement

No love for the likes of Dragon Quest VII, World of Final Fantasy, and I Am Setsuna, not even in the RPG categories. Oh well, guess I’m just still stuck in the 90s. I’ve long given up on the idea of a centralized gaming awards ceremony because opinions of what games are and what games should be are simply too varied. If only I worked for a gaming publication that made its own Game of the Year awards…

Oh wait! Ours will be up as 2016 closes and all the games for the year release.

DOOM and Overwatch have seemed like the front-runners for the entire year, and it’s all playing out as predicted. I only wonder if Titanfall 2 is going to play spoiler because of its surprisingly solid single player campaign.

We’ll find out on Dec. 1.
