Super Mario Maker for the Nintendo 3DS has been a tough sell for many of the Nintendo faithful. Its portability and convenience are coming at the expense of true online connectivity, and fans who want their friends to play their creations will only be able to share their levels through StreetPass or Local Play.
Nintendo is hoping to make this version more attractive with the aid of Medals. Players can achieve these through completing special goals within each of the 100 pre-loaded levels that Nintendo has included.
Play on both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS
In the trailer’s description, Nintendo also points out how to play popular levels more conveniently with the aid of the Wii U.
Get ready to play a near-infinite number of side-scrolling 2D Mario courses anytime, anywhere! Earn in-game medals in 100 built-in courses and access recommended courses from the Super Mario Maker™ game on the Wii U™ console*.
The air around this re-release is still a little confusing regarding what you can and can’t do. I wouldn’t mind taking Super Mario Maker with me on the train, but I’m going to wait and see how people feel about this version’s connectivity before I dive in. I want to be able to access my levels wherever I go.
Super Mario Maker will launch for the Nintendo 3DS on Dec. 2.
