Rockstar’s stopped with the teasing and officially announced Red Dead Redemption 2. The teases went off each day at 9am ET on Twitter. Today was no different, except now we have a name.

Above, you’ll find the announcement for Red Dead Redemption 2. You’ll also find news that we’ll have a trailer on Thursday, October 20, at 11AM ET.

Earlier today, word spread that Take-Two registered the Red Dead Online domain name. The word from Rockstar confirms that this sequel will have an online portion, but it won’t be the entire game. We’ll still get our single-player tale.

Developed by the creators of Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2 is an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland. The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

Is this a prequel? We’re not sure.

Besides to what we have today, Rockstar posted these two images on Sunday and Monday.

The first is the Rockstar logo in Red Dead style. The second features the shadows of seven cowboys against a setting sun. That image has pushed fans to consider this next Red Dead to be a prequel.

Why? I dove into that on Twitter, so I’ll let that be a summary.

That’s Bill Williamson, one of Dutch’s Gang. That’s the gang Red Dead Redemption hero John Marston belonged to before setting up a farm.

Is this Red Dead a prequel? I’m not sure anymore. The game is titled Red Dead Redemption 2, with that number suggesting we’ll see a direct sequel to the events in Red Dead Redemption.

However, we have details on the posse’s faces now. The one with the upturned brim still looks like Bill Williamson, and Bill Williamson dies in Red Dead Redemption. If he’s alive, this is a prequel.

We’ll find out soon. Stay tuned.
