Rayman creator digs up lost Super Nintendo prototype, hints at desire to release it

Rayman creator Michel Ancel went digging through his basement this past weekend and found an important treasure the world never even knew about: a copy of the very first Rayman game! No, not the original Atari Jaguar or PlayStation release back in 1995, but rather, a Super Nintendo prototype that shows what the game was originally intended to look like.

In two consecutive Instagram posts, Ancel posted an image of the original cartridge, and then to his shock, he posted another image after he found it still worked!

It’s working !!!! 4 people in the world have seen this . We thought it was lost , but somewhere in the cold electronic circuit , something was still alive . and running at full 60fps !!! should do a Switch version of this

A re-release on Virtual Console would be nice

I agree! The game should be put out for fans to enjoy!

However, Michael Ancel is currently up to his eyeballs in both Beyond Good Evil 2 and his own indie project, so Ubisoft will have to find someone else to handle a Virtual Console port. I think Rayman fans would enjoy playing it a lot, especially if there isn’t another Origin or Legends game coming out any time soon.
