Pokémon GO cutting down on Pidgeys, Rattatas, and Zubats

When you go out for a Pokéwalk, chances are you are going to stumble across a Pidgey, a Rattata, or a Zubat. These three ultra common Pokémon make up a majority of the world’s Pokémon population, but Niantic has decided to cut back on the number you’ll come across.

A recent update on the official Twitter page hints that you’ll have a higher chance of finding new Pokémon where the three usually turn up.

And another Twitter post also says that you won’t have to worry about hatching Pidgeys and Rattatas from eggs anymore. This good news comes with more news about Eevee and his egg hatching issues.

Pidgey and Rattata don’t get enough love

Awww, poor Pidgey and Rattata. I get why Pokémon GO players might despise them, outside of being easy evolution fodder, but if you were around in 1998, you would understand their appeal. Just try and beat the first two gym trainers with nothing but your Charmander and novice skill and see how long you last. Yeah, that’s not going to happen. Pidgey and Rattata always had your back when you needed them.

They aren’t the best Pokémon, and they get easily swapped out before the adventure’s end. I’m also happy they won’t be clogging up my Pokémon GO experience anymore, but there isn’t anything that can change my mind about their lasting legacy. Haters can go away! Pidgey and Rattata are true heroes of the Pokémon universe.

Zubat, though? Yeah. The world is suffering no loss there.
