Plex Cloud adds support for OneDrive, Dropbox and Google Drive

Earlier this year, Plex rolled out integration with Amazon Drive, giving users the ability to stream from the cloud. Now, Plex Cloud is opening the floodgates by introducing support for the market’s top cloud services.

Going forward, Plex Cloud will support OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Drive, providing users with a plethora of options.

In September, Plex had this to say about its new cloud component:

We take care of all the annoying stuff like software updates and power bills. Our Cloud Elves (that’s totally a thing) have worked a little bit of magic to bring you all the sweet, sweet transcoding capability usually reserved for more powerful home servers.

Plex also said invites for Plex Cloud, which is currently in beta, should start ramping up on Dec. 5. Here’s a statement the service provided to TechnoBuffalo:

Our goal is to make managing your media in the Cloud more flexible by allowing you to link multiple Cloud storage providers, so you can create libraries with content from any of them. While these new providers are up and running and working great, we’ve run into some technical challenges with the Amazon Drive integration. We are working hard to resolve the issues, so please stay tuned. Lastly, we expect to begin ramping up invites starting December 5th!

A nice alternative to running your own server

If you have a robust movie library but don’t have the computer equipment necessary to run a Plex server, the cloud is a convenient alternative. The nice thing is you can stream your content from any device that supports Plex, too.

You need a Plex Pass subscription in order to use the cloud feature, which is as little as $4.99 per month or $149 for a lifetime subscription.

In addition to adding support for more cloud services, Plex also announced integration with popular app Kodi.
