If you want to buy a OnePlus smartphone, you don’t typically turn to your carrier. But O2 will soon become the first operator to offer the OnePlus 3 in the United Kingdom. The device will be available September 29, starting at £28 (approx. $36) per month on O2 Refresh.
OnePlus has teamed up with other carriers around the world before, but the vast majority of OnePlus handsets are purchased off-contract directly from the company’s online store. That could soon change for OnePlus fans in the U.K.
Those who don’t want to pay the full cost of the OnePlus 3 upfront will soon be able to get it on contract. The options include 500 minutes, unlimited texts, and 500MB of data for £28 a month, or unlimited minutes and texts and 3GB of data for £35.50 (approx. $46) a month.
“We chose O2 as our exclusive partner in this important market because they have a history of focusing on the most premium smartphones for the most savvy users, which aligns very well with our products and users,” said OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei.
The deal will be good for both OnePlus and O2. Not only will it give the OnePlus 3 greater exposure in the U.K., and make it more accessible to fans, but it will attract new customers to O2, given that this exclusive deal means the handset isn’t available from a rival.
To celebrate the handset’s launch, there will be a OnePlus popup event on launch day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at O2’s Westfield White City store in London. Further details on availability and pricing will be available on O2’s website from September 29.
