Apple’s October event came and went yesterday, and sadly, no new Mac Pros were announced. Although disappointing, hope is not completely lost yet. According to Mac World UK, a source close to Apple stated a new Mac Pro may launch in late November.
Let me preface this by saying this is a rumor, and nothing has been confirmed by Apple at this point, but the Mac Pro is in dire need of an update. It was surprising Apple did not announce at least a minor refresh to its top-of-the-line computer. The Mac Pro hasn’t been updated since Apple introduced the computer in June 2013—three and half years ago.
“As we previously reported, a source close to Apple says the new Mac Pro will launch by the end of November, so we’re hopeful of an announcement soon,” writes Karen Haslam. This news does ignite some hope, but we’ll take it with a grain of salt. It seems rather unlike Apple to announce a major new update to the Mac Pro in the middle of the night instead of during its fall event.
Adding to the fire was some code found in Mac OS X El Capitan that seems to hint a possible new Mac Pro with 10 USB 3 ports. But again, this is all speculation and a new Mac Pro is not a given.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation and see if these new rumors turn out to be true.
