Mass Effect: Andromeda “not planned” for Nintendo Switch

Mass Effect: Andromeda is set to be one of the biggest games of 2017, but EA and BioWare are not planning to bring it to the newest video gaming console. When the Nintendo Switch launches in March, the game will not be accompanying it.

Speaking with Stevivor, BioWare Producer Michael Gamble mentioned the Nintendo Switch when talking about support for other upcoming platforms like Scorpio. Sadly, he did not have good news for Nintendo fans.

Yeah, not right now, no. We’re not planning on it. If the Switch launches and everyone’s just yammering for Mass Effect, who knows. We never want to close doors like that.

Many were wondering if the game would be released on the Nintendo Switch. EA did manage to publish Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U, but the poor sales figures led it to be one of the last collaborations between the two companies.

Mass Effect: Andromeda offers a whole new 3D galaxy

Gamble also spoke about the game’s new abilities on the new consoles. One of the biggest new features is a full 3D galaxy, as he expands upon in the interview.

A perfect example of [current-gen enhancements] is in the galaxy map If you recall in the original trilogy your navigation through the galaxy map was on a 2D plane. You kind of move your Normandy to and fro.

In Andromeda, that’s totally different. You look up the windscreen of the Tempest, and space is rendered in front of you 180 degrees.

If you go to the back of the Tempest, you’ll see that the star that’s behind the ship is actually there, reflecting light beautifully on the conference room in the Tempest. Then, as you fly to a different area with a black hole, you see that effects things differently. I’m kind of nerding out visually on it, but next-gen allows us to do all that kind of stuff, and do really cool things that, for players who care about that stuff, it’s all technically correct.

It allows us to do amazing alien worlds with two suns, and weird blue moons, and all sorts of cool stuff. Yeah, I mean, hopefully when you guys play, you’ll agree.

Can’t wait! Mass Effect: Andromeda will be coming out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in Q1/Q2 2017.
