Marvel won’t reveal future movie plans because of spoilers

Spoilers are a delicate thing in the world of superhero movies. For Marvel, keeping secrets comes with the territory. You don’t want people to know the outcome of Avengers: Infinity War before the movie hit theaters. That ruins a lot of the fun.

So, in the spirit of keeping the Marvel Cinematic Universe as spoiler-free as possible, the studio doesn’t plan on revealing titles for the movies coming out in 2020.

In an interview with The Toronto Sun, head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige hinted that whatever happens in Infinity War will be big.

“Where we go after Avengers; what those 2020 films are, we’re pretty sure what those are going to be… but if I tell you that, we’re getting into spoilers,” Feige said.

In 2014, Marvel held a special event where it announced the full slate for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes films all the way through 2019. But there are three mysterious projects scheduled to come out the following year, too—but that’s not information Marvel is willing to divulge.

With Avengers: Infinity War billed as Marvel’s next big event film, revealing titles for future movies might spoil what happens. New Avengers, for example, might pop up in Phase 4. Or keeping the titles secret could mean the death of a major character(s). That information could be devastating for Marvel if that information were to leak out.

Marvel doesn’t want to spoil it

By not revealing which characters these untitled films will focus on, it leaves everyone vulnerable heading into the big showdown with Thanos. There could potentially be one more Iron Man movie in 2020 but Feige doesn’t want us to know because it would spoil the fact that he survives Infinity War.

See? It’s a delicate situation that needs plenty of calculated planning. And, anyway, Marvel has eight films planned before 2020, so there will be plenty of content to keep audiences busy before then.
