LG begins Android 7.0 Nougat rollout for G5

LG has begun rolling out its latest Android 7.0 Nougat update for the G5. The South Korean company was the first smartphone maker to offer a Nougat device in the recently-released V20 — now its smaller flagship is following suit.

The rollout is beginning in Korea, so don’t expect to see it just yet if you live elsewhere. LG promises that the update will be available in the Americas, Asia, and elsewhere “in the weeks to come” — subject to carrier approval.

The fact that LG has brought Nougat to the G5 so quickly shows it’s keen to bring the device up to speed. It also suggests that it has able to optimize Nougat for the G5 without running into any significant issues that slowed down its development.

The wait for those in other countries shouldn’t be too long, then.

“At LG, we know our customers want the best, most up-to-date mobile experience,” the company said in a press release.

“Getting software updates to our users faster than the competition is our way of demonstrating that LG is committed to supporting our products and customers to ensure they have a positive ownership experience.”

As soon as Nougat for the G5 touches down in the U.S., we’ll let you know.
