Almost two years after Kodak jumped into the smartphone market, it looks like the company is ready to try again. A fresh Kodak handset is set to debut on October 20 with what looks like an interesting new design.
The company teased the device on Twitter this week, though the tweet in question has already been deleted. However, the same image is still visible on the Kodak Phones website revealing the October 20 date and a cropped look at the design.
Based on the teaser, it looks like the new smartphone will feature a physical button with Kodak’s logo imprinted on it. That could be a shutter button for controlling the camera, but it might just be the power button. The device also appears to feature a brushed metal design along the edges.
Kodak’s last smartphone wasn’t exactly a stunner. The IM5 offered a simplified version of Android meant for first-time users. The hardware was lightweight and decidedly mid-range. The device packed a 5-inch 720p display, a MediaTek processor, a 2,100mAh battery, a 13-megapixel rear camera, 8GB of expandable storage and 1GB of RAM.
It looks like Kodak might be moving into higher-end territory with this new model, though we still don’t know much about the device. Stay tuned for the big announcement on October 20, and take a look at the original Kodak IM5 handset in the gallery below.
