Apple’s iOS 10 is the most exciting, powerful release in the company’s history. But it’s not all good. In some respects, Apple’s mobile software has taken a few steps back since last year’s update.
Some of our biggest gripes with iOS still remain; the grid layout is wearing thin; you can’t replace default apps; it still takes a lot of swipes and taps to perform simple actions. These are frustrations we’ve had for years.
Specific to iOS 10, Apple made usability a bit more frustrating. For example, “slide to unlock” is now a thing of the past, and by default you need to press the home button in order to unlock your phone. Control Center has also been tweaked and it looks great, but music controls have been moved over to a separate pane, which requires one more swipe than should be necessary.
It’s the little things like that that can make the new update frustrating. While we’re happy with new features such as widgets and a better lock screen experience, improvements still need to be made.
