The Google Pixel features an option that has become more and more popular among smartphone and tablet users. It’s called Night Light, and it helps cut down on the amount of “blue light” shooting out of your smartphone display. Researchers have suggested that spending lots of time in front of that type of light, reading on a smartphone or tablet before bed, for example, can keep you awake.
This isn’t a new function. F.Lux was probably one of the first popular options on the market, but there are other third-party applications. iOS also has the function built-in, as do other smartphones. I’ve found it to be super useful, so if you own a Pixel are are looking for a good night’s sleep, here’s how to use it.
- Pull down the notification shade.
- Tap the small Pencil icon at the top of the screen.
- Drag the “Night Light” option toward the top of the display. This will make sure it’s always within reach.
- Close the notification shade.
- Open the notification shade again.
- Long press on “Night Light.”
- Set your schedule. I prefer to have it turn on automatically at sunrise and sunset.
That’s all there is to it. Now, as the sun sets, your phone will automatically flip into Night Light mode, cutting out blue light. That should help you fall asleep easier. You can always toggle it on and off, too, by tapping the function in the Notification shade.
