Google Allo, the chat app released on the last day of summer, is on the receiving end of some big updates today. Among the notable new features, Allo will now allow users to customize the app with themes, from a plain black background to “Watermelon” and “Sorbet.”
There are about ten themes in all, ranging from the crazy to the subtle. Depending on the theme you choose, the color of the chat bubbles also change color, adding more spice to your conversations. I don’t know about you, but I’m a plain black man myself.
The update also features “Smart Smiley,” which will suggest emojis and stickers, similar to what it does for quick replies. Google says users simply need to tap the Smart Smiley button and Allo will suggest emojis and stickers to help you finish your thought.
“Suggestions for stickers and emojis will change based on the words you write and the sentiment of your message,” Google explained in a blog post. “And if you haven’t started typing, Smart Smiley offers suggestions based on your conversation so the perfect sticker is just one tap away.”
Emoji suggestions are all the rage
According to Google, the new feature has increased the number of stickers shared by staffers by 30 percent. Speaking of stickers, Allo has another media tie-in to celebrate the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Now, you can share stickers of Newt Scamander and more to your heart’s content.
The update is rolling out today for iOS and Android. Unfortunately, Smart Smiley is only available in English at launch, but support for more languages is expected sometime in the future.
