Apple says it’s going to fix all the recent calendar spam

Lately, a number of iCloud users (myself included) have noticed an unusual uptick in calendar invites from spammers. The worst part is there’s no easy way to make them stop though it is possible if you don’t mind jumping through a few hoops.

Simply declining events might do more harm than good, too, because it indicates to spammers that your account is active. So, what are you supposed to do? Apple says it’s working on a fix.

Here’s a statement the company provided to iMore’s Rene Ritchie over an iMessage conversation:

We are sorry that some of our users are receiving spam calendar invitations. We are actively working to address the issue by identifying and blocking suspicious senders and spam invites being sent.

As of now, Apple doesn’t allow iOS and Mac users to block these annoying invites, which means they’ll just keep coming and coming until Apple puts a stop to it.

When technology backfires

Making matters worse is a feature found in macOS and iOS that automatically scans your inbox for invitations. It seems the very feature designed to make your life easier is backfiring.

Who knows how long it will take for Apple to come up with a fix. Hopefully, it happens soon.

For now, be weary of any mysterious calendar invites that come your way.
