You might use Amazon to order everything from PS4 games to paper towels, but what about a car? Don’t laugh. Amazon and Fiat Chrysler have a new deal in which Fiat Chrysler will sell cars through Amazon at discounts.
Reuters said this morning that the deals will save consumers as much as one-third of the total cost they’d pay elsewhere. Talk about an Amazon Prime benefit, right? There won’t be any sort of special delivery, though, so don’t expect a truck to just swing by the house and drop your car off in the driveway just yet. Instead, Reuters said that Amazon will work with dealers so that customers can purchase the car online and then go pick it up at a physical dealer location in about two weeks time. That still sounds a heck of a lot better than trying to work out an agreeable price with a car dealer.
Three Fiat Chrysler Cars available from Amazon to start
Amazon will sell just three models to start, including the Fiat 500, Fiat 500L and Fiat Panda. “The time has arrived to give consumers a new, more efficient and transparent way to choose a new vehicle,” Fiat Chrysler’s Gianluca Italia said.
The service will start with Fiat Chrysler and Amazon customers in Italy, but this is the sort of service I expect will launch around the world if it does well with the initial test market. I’d do this in a heartbeat.
